A groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 10, 2004 for a new Biomedical Engineer and Optics Building on the site of the old Cyclotron control building and shop, which has been demolished to facilitate construction of the new building.. The building was named after Robert B. Goergen in 2006 after he donated $10 million towards its construction cost.  The building opened in May 2007.  Georgen graduated from UR in 1960 with a degree in physics.

The building wraps around the south and west side of the Wilmot Building
