Plaque in Carlson Library

Ground was broken in August 1985 for a new Computer Science and Science Library Building. The building opened in August 1987 and was dedicated in October.

The existing Carlson Library in Hutchison Hall and the Engineering Library in Gavett Hall were combined in the new building as Carlson Library after Chester Floyd Carlson.

Ground was broken behind Hutchison and Hylan Halls on August 6 as work was started on the site of the Computer Studies and Science Library.
The 12.5 million dollar project will be a seven story building housing a three story science library containing the contents of the Carlson, Engineering and Computer libraries.

Ground was broken in August for the first new construction on the River Campus since the Zornow Center was completed in 1982. The seven-story Computer Studies and Science Library Building is going up on a site across the plaza from the Hylan tower (math-science building) and Hutchison Hall. The new home of the Department of Computer Sciences will be enlivened by a five-leevel, glass-enclosed space housing conference rooms, teaching labs, and other public areas. Also finding new quarters in the building will be some elements of the Department of Electrical Engineering and a science library that combines the Carlson and engineering libraries. Scheduled completion date is 1987.

The new science library will be called Carlson Library and will combine the present Carlson and Engineering Libraries onto the first three floors of the new building.
