Appropriate Decorum Policy


I. Date of Initiation: January 1, 2003

II. Policy Classification: Internal to Administration and Finance

III. Policy Summary: This policy establishes standard procedures for the appropriate manner in which Support Operations Staff will conduct themselves in the workplace.

IV. Related Policies: University Policy #154, Corrective Discipline

V. Delegation of Authority: All Support Operations Staff

VI. Policy Statement: Proper decorum is not only essential to a productive workplace, but appropriate for all staff in a professional setting. Any improper raising of voice, yelling or abusive language is considered inappropriate in the workplace.

VII. Definitions: None

VIII. Responsibilities: All staff are required to report any instance of a staff member using inappropriate behavior towards any other individual to their Supervisor.

IX. Procedures:

  • After witnessing a situation of inappropriate behavior, staff are required to report it to their Supervisor for investigation and follow-up.
  • Depending on the result of the investigation, the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
  • A Supervisor not taking action in such a situation, is subject to potential disciplinary action as well as the individuals involved.

X. Policy Review: This policy is to be reviewed periodically by the University Facilities and Services and/or Support Operations. In the event of a significant failure or change of circumstances, evaluation of this policy and procedures must be undertaken.
