Garden Tips
|
- "Fall is for
planting." In addition to lawns, it is a great time to plant
trees, shrubs, and perennials.
- Purchase spring flowering bulbs.
Stagger blooming time of bulbs to increase length of color in
spring. Shop early for best selection.
- Give houseplants a good cleaning
prior to returning inside.
- Check and update your gardening
records for a later review.
- To stimulate root and crown growth,
apply a fall fertilizer to lawns. Use an analysis higher in
potassium and phosphorus to encourage root growth and disease
resistance. A ratio such as 5-10-10 or 5-10-5 should be readily
available. Consider using fertilizers which are at least 50%
organic.
- Check your watering and feeding
schedule.
- Begin fall clean-up by raking leaves
as they drop. If you do not have a compost area, consider
building one for garden debris and "green" kitchen
wastes.
