AUGUST
Garden Tips
|
- Continue to check for summer pests in the garden. Remove
any dead or dying plants to help stop the spread of disease and
insects.
- Review your watering and feeding schedule. Deep, less
frequent watering is preferable to shallow watering (the goal is
to encourage your plants to root as deep as possible to avoid
drought stress).
- If treating for broadleaf weeds, try spot spraying
individual weeds when appropriate.
- Now is the time to begin scouting for Japanese beetle
grubs. If infestation is severe, consult your local garden center
for options to control.
- Is your garden record keeping up to date? Record harvest
amounts and flowering cycles or plants. This will help your
off-season garden planning.
- Try to finish all shrub shearing prior to the end of
August. This will allow newly stimulated growth to harden off
before winter.
