Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do when my parking lot is full?
If the Medical Center lot to which you are assigned is full, the overflow area for all Medical Center parking lots is the evening section of Lot 1. When this area becomes full, a parking representative will direct vehicles to Lot 1 Reserved, Lots 2 and 5 respectively. For River Campus lots, it is recommended that you stop at the information booth on Wilson Blvd. A parking representative will assist you in locating an alternative parking spot.
With my regular University parking permit, when may I use the garage facility?
Your permit is valid in the parking garage Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. thru 10:00 a.m. the following day and all day on weekends as well as official University holidays.
Why do I have to pay to park?
The Parking Department is a self-supporting department. Monies generated through permit fees are
used to maintain the lots, and provide for lighting, snow plowing, and security.
Why was I ticketed?
Ticketing is used to enforce the rules and regulations set forth by the University to assure the safety and well being of customers.
Why is parking so crowded? Can you build another garage?
The cost of a new facility ranges from $10,000 to $15,000 per space. Presently other Capital Projects have a higher priority than does a new garage.
Do you have a shuttle service to Park Lot located in Zone 3?
The University does not have shuttle service to this area. Funds are presently unavailable to provide this service.
Why is Library road one way?
The road was reconfigured to assure the safety of vehicular, as well as pedestrian traffic, from the bus stop located at the back of Rush Rhees Library.
Why do I need to register my vehicle?
With the supply of parking spaces available, a parking permit assists in regulating the parking space assignment. Therefore, when you arrive to work, you will be able to find a parking space, or be redirected to an overflow parking lot. All faculty, staff, students, and contractors who wish to park either on Campus or at the Medical Center are required to register their vehicle(s) with the RC or MC Parking Office.
