Alarm Test Procedure

This is the alarm testing procedure to be followed by the EOG mechanic with the corresponding participation from the O&M mechanic and the University Customer. All steps and tasks shall be undertaken by the assigned EOG technician unless stated otherwise.

Before Testing the Alarm

1. Prior to the test, copy and paste the alarm point, it's location, and the current message into the Notes section of the FAMIS work order. Also, define the reason for testing and the expected results in the Notes section. See EOG supervisor for list of persons who need to know the test results, and any special instructions to be noted.

2. Notify O&M group supervisor of the point, location, and message to be tested. Confirm with the supervisor how the customer should be contacted to confirm the message, and what mechanic will be working with you for the test. Enter who, when and how you contacted the O&M person as well as what was discussed in the Notes section of the FAMIS work order.

3. Contact the O&M mechanic, and note any system/equipment retrictions or limitations that should be prepared for.

4. If advised by the O&M group supervisor, call the end user, confirm the message information and verify their e-mail address. E-mail them the message as it currently is recorded, and request a reply by e-mail within one week. Update the informational text box, record the changes in the Notes section of the FAMIS work order, and send an email to CSC, O&M and your supervisor for their information.

5. Schedule/confirm the time of the test with the O&M Group.

6. Give notification in a timely manner, following the Facilities notification process where applicable.

The Day of the Test

7. Contact the O&M delegate and confirm that the test may begin.

8. Notify the Customer Service Center of the particular point to be tested and ask them not to page the alarm but to acknowledge as normal.

9. Using the phone or radio, establish communication between the Environmental Coordinator and the EOG and O&M mechanic at the test point.

10. Perform the test of the alarm in a manner that most duplicates an actual alarm condition.

11. Confirm the alarm and the message was received with the Environmental Coordinator, and CSC.

12. Return the point to it's normal status, and confirm it's return with the Environmental Coordinator.

13. Notify the Customer Service Center that the test is complete, and confirm that the point returned to Normal on their screen.

After the Test

14. Document the test results in the Notes section of FAMIS including the information about how the alarm was triggered, and who witnessed the reporting of the alarm in EOG and CSC, and results of the test (success/failed). If the test failed, create a corrective work order using the appropriate process and close the PM work order.

15. Provide the O&M Group and other interested parties with the FAMIS work order number of the test, and the corrective work order when applicable.
